Actual PPH

The formula to calculate the actual PPH is:
Actual PPH = Output / (People * Working Hours)

Output: Output of a production line.
People: Actual number of people in a production line.
Working Hours: Total people multiplied by working hours (total people means the total number of direct people  or direct & indirect people in the line).
For example:

Sewing XYZ line output: 300 pairs
Total direct people: 40
Working hours: 8 hours
Find the actual PPH of this line:
Actual PPH = 300 / (40 * 8) = 0.94

Actual PPH

Using almost the same formula, you can find out the actual PPH of each production department and factory. The only difference is that you need to collect all production line outputs of that particular department.

For example:
The Lasting department has four production lines: W, X, Y, and Z. The outputs of these production lines are 1000, 1200, 1400, and 1600 pairs respectively. Total people: 500. Working hours: 8 hours.

Find the actual PPH of the Lasting department:
Department Actual PPH = Sum of all production line output / (People * Working Hours)

Sum of all production line output = 1000 + 1200 + 1400 + 1600 = 5200 pairs
Total people = 500
Working hours = 8

Department Actual PPH = 5200 / (500 * 8) = 5200 / 4000 = 1.30

In this way, you can find the actual PPH of all production departments and the factory.

Using actual PPH, we can also determine the achievement rate of the line:
PPH achievement rate = (Actual PPH / Target PPH) * 100%

The Industrial Engineering (IE) department will provide the target PPH.

For example:

Sewing XYZ line output: 300 pairs
Total direct people: 40
Working hours: 8 hours
IE target PPH: 1.20
Find the PPH achievement rate of this line:
Actual PPH = 300 / (40 * 8) = 0.94
Line PPH achievement rate = (0.94 / 1.20) * 100% = 78%

Note: In a production line, people are divided into two parts: direct and indirect.

Direct people: Those who make shoes are called direct people, or simply, people who operate an operation are known as direct people.
Indirect people: Those who do not directly make shoes but help by providing ideas, analyzing current situations to solve problems, etc., are called indirect people.
